The party in the hall

Wednesday night was interesting. I normally don't go to a "safe spot" during Tornado Warnings. I actually like to look outside during them. We were watching the news and they were stating that there was a lot of rotation in the storn coming directly at us. I almost kept both kids in bed, but I thought I should go with my gut and huddle in the hallway. Since our house is so small, that is really the only "sort of" safe place. So we got both kids out of bed at 9:45. Then Mark had to let out one of his extremely loud and scary sneezes. Quinn was now screaming and wide awake. I had him go make a bottle, then explained to him how to feed a baby while sitting on the floor(love you babe). Riley actually cuddled with me. There we were... our little family huddled in the hallway with blankets, pillows, and books. Every once in a while, Riley looked up and smiled at us. We read stories and watched the storm on the computer. I must say, it was one of the sweetest moments I have had. Once the storm passed, we assumed we could just put them to bed. WRONG! Riley had a sudden surge of energy and became slap happy. She started jumping and Quinn thought it was the funniest thing ever. Without going into too many details, Riley was slap happy another hour and a half. So we went to bed and midnight and Quinn woke up at 5:00, Riley at 6:30. Today was rough. Annoying? yes....Worth it? definitely.

Other then our exciting evening, here are the highlights of the week:

* Quinn is starting to crawl more. He now gets on his hands and knees and flies forward. He can get where he wants now, even to the electrical cords he began chewing on.
* Riley is obsessed with Elmo. She has occasionally watched Sesame Street, but she talks about Elmo all day long. She even sits and looks at her diapers and stares at the tiny Elmo on them.
* I now have a part time job working at Camp Red Cedar for the Summer. Since I have already worked at AWS, I just get to start and I already know what I am doing. It came at a perfect time, so for that I am grateful. I am sad to leave the kids, but I can do it!
* We had a great Father's Day. I was able to spend it with Mark and my Dad. Mark is such a great Daddy! I am so blessed to have him as my husband!
* I had the stomach flu this week and it was not fun. Thankfully, the kids spent the day at Grandma's house. I don't feel like I have figured out how to be a good mom while I am sick.
* Quinn has been sleeping until 6:00 or 6:30 most of the time. Ahhh, finally a few decent nights of sleep in a few months...I mean a couple of years. Sleep is not overrated!
* For all of those who know my husband, here is a fun fact about him. He reads my blogs, and then edits them when he finds a grammatical errors, he can't stand it when I misssspell words. Is that a run on sentence Mark?

The 6:00am miracle

Wow, has it already been a week? I have to start out by saying that Quinn slept until 6:00am this morning! I know it may be a fluke, but I have never been so happy to wake up at that time! I thought I was dreaming when I was waking up. Before I opened my eyes, I could tell it was light outside. I did not hear crying, I then saw the clock. I actually went straight to his room to make sure he was ok. I heard that sweet little snore and enjoyed the moment. He woke up soon after, but the 10 minutes I was able to lay in bed was sheer bliss. When the day comes where I complain to wake up at 7:00am, please slap me.

In other news, I get the mean mom award. Last weekend we decided to go to the elementary school across the street to let Riley play on the playground. It is much more relaxing to watch her when there are not 500 kids running around. I was able to go down some slides with her. I then decided that she was such a big girl, she would be fine going down the giant twisty slide by herself. Mark looked at me like I was crazy, but I knew how fearless my little girl was. After I pushed her down, I immediately heard tumbling. Yes, she tumbled the entire time she was going down. It sounded horrible, so I did that nervous laugh thing. She finally arrived at the bottom with red marks all over her body. She stood up, looked a little scared, then proceeded to climb back up to the top. She is not a wimp, that is for sure! We then went out for ice cream so I could feel like a good mom again.

Quinn is eating baby food on a regular basis now. He has liked everything I have given him except peas (I don't blame him). He is also getting on his hands and knees. I think he will be starting to crawl in the next few weeks. Riley is getting more teeth. She now has 11 teeth. She was late in getting her teeth, but now they are all coming in at once. Poor girl. They both still have runny noses and red spots all over their bodies. I think they have the never ending cold in the summer! Riley's temper tantrums have increased significantly. She may be entering her terrible two's early. I should expect that though, she is always being an overachiever. They will both be spending Friday and Saturday in Huntington with our family. I have that happy/sad feeling about it. I am happy to rest and spend time with Mark. I am sad they will be gone. In the end, it will be good for us all. I will leave you with a few pictures of my cuties!

A week in review

I know, I know, I have slacked off on my blogging the last few weeks. I would like to say that I had no time, but that would be a lie. I have probably had a lot of time since both kids were sick and we have been stuck in the house for what seems like forever. Here are the highlights of the past couple of weeks:

* Riley and Quinn both had colds. Unfortunately Riley also had diaper rash that turned into blisters and she is teething. It has been rough for everyone.
* I took Riley to an after hours clinic and I knew more than the doctor on call.
* Riley gagged Quinn with a spoon, literally. I turned around and Riley had a spoon down his throat. His eyes were watering and he was gagging...very sad.
* Quinn still likes to start his day the second the sun comes up. As some of you may know, the sun comes up way too early in June.
* Quinn laughed in the car....a miracle in itself.
* We have a sandbox. A blessing and a curse.
* Riley can now repeat any word that is said to her.
* Quinn goes to the nursery at church. I was very sad about it, however, he hated sitting in church.
* We no longer have cable or DVR and its actually not too bad.
* Riley and Quinn love each other so much, I can hardly even stand it! A benefit of having 2 so close together.
* Our family could use a vacation.... on a beach preferably.

Whenever I feed Quinn, I can't keep his toes out of his mouth.

This is Quinn watching tv. Remind you of anyone?

I love this picture. Riley often sleeps with her feet hanging out of the crib.

This picture cracks me up because it looks like they are having a conversation.
